Mayan Roberts, Storm Clouds. Acrylic and watercolor on canvas, 5″ x 5″.  March 2014.

We’ll most of us look just a moment. Then,
Admiring an orange or a blue,
We might ask what you saw, and look again –
Respectfully – though grownups humor you,
You might not want to tell us what it was.
You might not quite remember. It was there…
But you’re not sure it matters now. It does.
It changes things: just hovering in the air,
A brushstroke spoke your name and whispered, “See?
This color? There are more. But just today,
Against this green gray purple, start with me.”
And then you did. And then it went away.
The grownups can’t remember what you know.
For them, it happened far too long ago.
